CARINE VAN GESTEL CERAMICS

ABERYSTWYTH ARTS CENTRE

Natural Connections - four practices inspired by the physical world, local and global: Halima Cassell, Jane Perryman, Siân Lester and Carine Van Gestel

The earth lies at the heart of this story of Natural Connections. Each artist has used clay, a simple material dug from the earth, to express a personal response to their world. These works and installations make connections with time and place and space, and at the centre of everything is the elemental substance of clay.

This major exhibition curated by Moira Vincentelli and Ffion Rhys coincides with the International Ceramics Festival held at the Arts Centre biennially taking place on 30th July – June 2nd this year, giving a platform for ceramics through demonstrations, kiln builds, lectures, films, exhibitions and hands-on activities.

TIMELESS EARTH CERAMICS

Behind The Curves...

My studio is in Machynlleth situated in the beautiful Dyfi valley, a landscape steeped in legends, mountains, rivers, the sea and wild clay. The local geology speaks to me and I don’t know when the next spark of an idea or project will strike.

Working intuitively, I contemplate how to develop ideas while considering the impact of my work on the environment. Gathering impressions together, ideas take shape and often surprise me.

My work is hand built using processes that are simple and immediate while striving for aesthetically harmonious and well-constructed forms. My aim is to create timeless and comfortable pieces from my hands to yours...
